Is Acupuncture Effective for Infertility?

At our clinic, we help those undergoing infertility treatment and In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) with acupuncture so that they can conceive as quickly as possible. We also offer consultations to those who come for infertility acupuncture, so please ask questions during your visit and we will try to ease your worries and stress about your treatment at the hospital.

We recommend that as much as possible, we provide treatment in parallel with hospital treatment. This is because acupuncture cannot help if Western medical examinations do not first clarify the passage of the fallopian tubes and whether or not surgery is applicable. There is a difference between what can be done with Western and Oriental medicine.

So, how does acupuncture help improve fertility and increase IVF on the following?

1. Regulate female reproductive hormones.

In principle, endocrine (female reproductive hormones) and autonomic nervous system need to be painstakingly balanced for optimal fertility. Acupuncture is an ideal and rational treatment that can balance the function of female reproductive hormones by properly stimulating the acupuncture points without drugs.

Acupuncture can regulate midbrain function and, by regulating the thalami – pituitary – ovary, normalise the secretion of hormones involved in pregnancy, such as GnRh (gonadotropin-releasing hormone), LH (luteinising hormone), and E2 (estradiol). Acupuncture also facilitate the function of secreting oestrogen by stimulating the adrenal glands.

Many clinical trials have proven that this is possible and acupuncture is able to guide patients to the desired course of pregnancy.

2. Enhance pelvic blood flow for improved egg quality and embryo implantation support.

Ovarian follicles and their eggs develop by responding to hormones and receiving nutrients through the blood supply to the ovaries. Embryo implantation is also associated with good blood supply to the uterus.

Acupuncture aimed at enhancing blood flow to the pelvic organs plays a critical role in improving the quality of eggs and promoting embryo implantation, which is essential for the establishment of a successful pregnancy.

3. Acupuncture Relieves Stress and Anxiety.

Also an important part of the presentation is stress. In some cases, emotional stress can cause infertility. High stress levels in patients with fertility problems can further reduce the chances of conception.

Stress can affect the balance of hormones related to successful conception. An increase in the stress hormone cortisol can affect reproductive hormones and negatively impact pregnancy. It can also affect ovulation and cause irregular menstrual cycles. As a result, this decrease the chance of implantation of a fertilized egg in the uterus.

In addition, stress and immune function are closely linked, and successful implantation in pregnancy depends on a properly functioning immune system. In some cases, problem with the immune system stop the embryo from implanting.

Either way, stress blocks the benefit of any treatments. Many studies have shown that acupuncture reduces anxiety and stress symptoms. Acupuncture is effective as a treatment to reduce stress and promoting overall well-being.

An important aspect of infertility acupuncture treatment is to clearly understand the physiological response to acupuncture, to identify and infer the cause of infertility, and to apply appropriate treatment. The causes of infertility are varied and may be difficult to identify. In such cases, it is beneficial to review health from the unique perspective of Oriental medicine rather than by body part. If adjustments with medications do not work, you may want to try acupuncture and moxibustion. In combination with Western medicine, synergistic effects can be expected.

In the case of infertility acupuncture, the acupuncturist usually spends a lot of time talking with the patient, touching the patient’s body and inserting needles each time. We believe that by touching the body, they can sense messages that the patient is unaware of.

If you lack additional healthcare coverage, don’t hesitate to seek acupuncture treatment. Remember, your health is an investment, not an expense. It would be a fortunate outcome if acupuncture can demonstrate its complementary value to modern medical treatments and become a guiding light for patients enduring chronic suffering.
